JAD Leads the Field in New Study of More Than 6 Decades of AD Literature

6 August 2014

There have been several studies mapping out Alzheimer’s disease (AD) research using bibliometrics. One of these studies was instrumental in building the Top 100 Most Prolific AD Investigators and Top 100 Most Cited AD Investigators lists that you’ll find on the JAD website.

A group of Korean researchers, led by Min Song, Department of Library and Information Science, Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea, has now analyzed the AD literature landscape using sophisticated scientometric tools. Their newly released article,“Identifying the landscape of Alzheimer’s disease research with network and content analysis,” appears in Scientometrics, July 2014 (Springer).

We are proud to announce that JAD ranked first for productivity among 4,480 journals and former Co-Editor-in-Chief Mark Smith and Editor-in-Chief George Perry were identified as the top two authors, respectively, among 253,575 identified.

George Perry, JAD’s Editor-in-Chief since the journal’s launch, is Dean of the College of Sciences and Professor of Biology at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Mark Smith, served as Co-Editor-in Chief of JAD alongside George Perry and was a professor of pathology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was Director of Basic Science Research at the University Memory and Aging Center. Many of you will recall Mark’s tragic death in 2010.

This study also provides an in-depth analysis of topic trends and the network of biological entities associated with AD over the time period. Of the 16 lines of investigation identified by the authors, the four hottest topics, in descending order, are tau protein, transgenic mouse studies, oxidative stress/mitochondrial dysfunction and brain imaging.
