Biography & Research:
Researcher with tenure, scientific area MED/04-General Pathology, at School of Medicine, University of Florence.
During more recent years my studies regarded particularly the developing of metabolic, morphologic and biologic markers of cellular senescence (Biogerontology 2003; J Gerontol 2005) and of neurodegenerative aging related pathologies, as Alzheimer's disease (Anal Biochem 2001, G Gerontologia 2003, Experim Gerontol 2004, JAD 2009, BMC Medicine 2009).
I have been involved in studies funded by Florence University (ex 60%) by annual MIUR projects (ex 40%, 1990-96, by PRIN Cofin projects coordinated by E. Bergamini-Pisa (years 1997-2003) and by PRIN Cofin projects coordinated by F. Paoletti (years 2000-2004). In the period 2001-2005 I partecipated to a strategic national project on Alzheimer disease, coordineated by F. Paoletti, funded by Italian Health Council through the Regione Toscana and focused on the validation of peripheral biomarkers in Alzheimer patients and a cohort of their asymptomatic relatives.
In 2006 we obtained a grant from Fondazione Monte dei Paschi di Siena, for a project entitled "Peripheral biomarkers for an early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and to test the effect of possible therapeutical interventions”..
Results of my studies have been presented in national and international Congresses and published in international journals. (Alessandra Mocali, et al. (2014). Altered Proteolysis in Fibroblasts of Alzheimer Patients with Predictive Implications for Subjects at Risk of Disease. INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE, vol. 2014, p. 1-8, ISSN: 2090-8024, doi: 10.1155/2014/520152)
