CURRENT POSITION
Clinical neurologist at the Memory Unit and the ALS Clinic of the University Hospital Marques the Valdecilla in Santander, Spain.

RESEARCH INTERESTS
My field of interest is neurodegeneration. Since 2013, I am a member of the Neurodegenerative diseases groups of both IDIVAL (Institute of Investigation Valdecilla), and CIBERNED (Center for Networked Biomedical Research on Neurodegenerative Diseases) having authored more than 35 scientific articles, most of them about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and dementias. My current research lines include i) Epigenetics in neurodegeneration, ii) Down Syndrome as a genetic model of Alzheimer´s Disease, iii) ALS and metabolism, iv) Epidemiology of ALS and v) Potential role of RXR agonists as new therapies for ALS. I presently participate in 7 competitive investigation projects, 3 as principal investigator, associated to these issues.
I am also the coordinator of ALS research for the CIBERNED group and member of the sanitary and innovation advisory board of the Francisco Luzon Foundation for ALS.
MAIN AWARDS
- Sanitas National award for best Spanish resident (Madrid, 2015).
-Extraordinary Doctorate Prize at the University of Cantabria (Santander 2017)
- Spanish Society of Neurology fellowship to the best Spanish neurology resident (Barcelona, 2015).
- National Investigation Award for the project: "Neuroprotective effect of Bexarotene in the SOD1G93A murine model of ALS" (Córdoba, 2016).
- Juan María Pares Award to the best biomedical PhD thesis in the University of Cantabria (Santander, 2017)
