Biography & Research:
My laboratory is based within the Department of Anatomy, University of Otago. I am molecular biologist whose core research interest has been to understand the molecular mechanisms underpinning long-term potentiation. This work has included studies of glutamate receptor synthesis and trafficking in vivo alongside and epigenetic control of gene expression. My research now explores the molecular mechanisms harnessed by the neuroprotective molecule, sAPPalpha, and identification of biomarkers within blood plasma, for early detection and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. I am the is Co-Director of the Brain Research New Zealand Rangahau Roro Aotearoa Blood biobank.
