Biography & Research:
My current position as a group leader at the Institute of neuropathology, University Hospital RWTH Aachen, Germany and my postdoctoral work at Laboratory for Structural Neuropathology, Brain Science Institute (BSI), RIKEN, Japan, provided me with the background necessary to support neuropathological work-up in the field of Motor neuron diseases (MNDs) with special focus on Fronto temporal demetia and Amyotrophic laterall sclerosis (FTD-ALS). I have a long-term experience in the investigation of pathomechanism (s) and therapeutic approaches of neurodegenerative diseases in human patients, animal models and cell culture systems with specialization in basic and translational research. I joined University Hospital Aachen as an independent group leader in Feb. 2011 to explore the patho-physiological complexities in Human patients. Here I developed significant methodological strength in analysing Human tissue samples (Brain, spinal cord, and skeletal muscles) to delineate the ER associated pathomechanisms in several neuromuscular and neurodegenerative disorders.I strongly believe that defining and exploiting the role of newly indentified, poorly characterized proteins by functional experiments in primary cultures, human iPS cells derived neurons, mouse models and further integrating the datasets with human pathology will be of considerable interest both from pathophysiological and therapeutic perspectives.
