Biography & Research:
I am a neuroscientist working on affective and perceptual processing, mental imagery and hedonic experiences. I have PhDs in Biological Cybernetics (MPI, Germany) and Neuroscience (USP, Brazil).
My research on vision, perception, and psychophysics was supported by EPSRC and Marie Sklodowska Currie grants. My postdoctoral research on anaesthetics, and later on long-range brain interactions in the thalamus, was funded by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Wellcome Trust, BBSRC and Royal Society). My lab focuses on studies on socio-affective abilities, mindreading, and empirical aesthetics. At the clinical level, we focus on how emotions and aesthetic/hedonic experiences can be affected by cognitive and physical constraints in muscular dystrophy and dementia.
