Biography & Research:
As an RN with a PhD in Nursing, my broad interest is in improving the detection and management of pain in older adults. My current work is specifically aimed at using psychophysical and neurophysiological approaches to examine pain in older adults with and without dementia. As a clinician, I am aware of the critical need to improve pain management in older adults and in the need to improve sex/gender associated pain management strategies. Using basic science to determine age- and sex-associated differences in the biological response to pain is a critical first step in developing age- and sex-appropriate interventions to manage pain in older adulthood.
