Biography & Research:
Antonios M. Politis , MD is Ass. Professor of Psychiatry at 1st Department of Psychiatry, Eginition Hospital of National and Kapodistrian University in Athens and Director of the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry (DGP) located at the same institution. In addition is Part-time faculty member, with the rank of Instructor at the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry and Neuropsychiatry, the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Baltimore, USA. He is also Instructor and supervisor on Cognitive Therapy Training program.
Dr Politis is a member of several professional organizations including Hellenic Psychiatric Association, Hellenic Association of Biological Psychiatry, Hellenic American Psychiatric Association (HAPA). Dr Politis was President of the International College of Geriatric Psychoneuropharmacology and current President of the Hellenic Psychogeriatric Association of which is founding Member and President.
Dr. Politis has received research grants and serve as principal investigator on EU projects and research on old age psychiatry, dementia, neuropsychiatric symptoms and the application of telematics in psychiatry. He is reviewer in several journals focused on old age psychiatry and has authored or co-authored in original publications in highly esteemed journals on topics ranging from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease to geriatric depression and genetics. His article have appeared in such periodicals as the International Psychogeriatrics, International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, International Journal of Alzheimer Disease, Schizophrenia Research, Journal of Alzheimer Disease and Journal of ECT, among others.
