Biography & Research:
Jeff Waring received his B.S. in Chemistry with a minor in Biology from Central Michigan University in 1988. He then went to the University of Iowa where he obtained a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics. His thesis was on transcriptional regulation in the major histocompatibility complex system. Following his thesis work, he was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship for postdoctoral research in Germany. His postdoctoral research was done at the University of Wurzburg and at the Institute for Molecular Pharmacology in Berlin, Germany and involved studying gene regulation in hematopoetic disorders using transgenic mouse models. Following his postdoctoral research, Jeff began working at Abbott Laboratories (AbbVie) in 1999. He has served as Group Leader in the Department of Cellular and Molecular Toxicology, and in the Neuroscience Biomarker Group. He is now Director for the Pharmacogenetics Department at AbbVie. His work focuses on identifying and characterizing genetic and epigenetic variants associated with response to new drug candidates.
