Biography & Research:
Our laboratory at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics (IBGM), a joined research center between the University of Valladolid and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and located in Valladolid, Spain, is devoted to study of remodeling of subcellular calcium in health (aging) and disease (Alzheimer´s disease and cancer). We use fluorescence and bioluminescence imaging for monitoring subcellular calcium in model cells as well as electrophysiological approaches for understanding the role of calcium channels in calcium remodelling. We are funded by national and regional research programs of Spain.
We have made important contributions regarding calcium microdomains, mitochondrial calcium overload in Alzheimer´s disease and calcium remodeling in colon cancer.
