Currently, Visiting Professorial Fellow, University of Oxford, and Professor Emerita, University of Manchester. Previous positions include: Studentship in Biophysics, Royal Cancer Hospital, Beit Memorial Research Fellow, Dept. of Radiotherapeutics, University of Cambridge & Research Fellow & Praelector, Newnham College, Cambridge. Honorary Lecturer, University of Manchester and Senior Scientist, Paterson Laboratory, University of Manchester, Later, Reader, then Professorial Fellow, University of Manchester. Recipient of The Lancet “Investigator Award”, presented at the Lancet International Conference on Dementia, 1996; Sir Henry Wellcome Commemorative Award for Innovative Research 1996 (& short-listed for a different proposal); Olympus Foundation Award, 1997 & 2009; Interlaken Leadership Award, 2011; Manchester Women in Science Award, 2011; Alzheimer’s Research Forum Research Award, 2011. . Sole or senior author of all but six of my publications – nearly all in refereed journals. One publication was listed as a Citation Classic (defined as a ‘highly useful publication as identified by the Science Citation Index’).
