Biography & Research:
L. Diomede is the Head of the Lab of Human Pathology in Model Organisms at the “Mario Negri” Institute of Milan (Italy). She has a background in biochemistry, biophysics and pharmacology. Her scientific interests relate to problems of human and animal diseases originating from the aberrant folding of proteins. In this context, a major portion of her studies was devoted to the etiopathogenesis and therapy of central and systemic amyloidosis. In the last ten years she has concentrated her interest on the use of Caenorhabditis elegans as a simplified model organism to investigate the biochemical and molecular mechanisms underlying protein misfolding diseases.
Besides this research position, since 2000 she is also Tutor of the School of Advanced Pharmacology and the PhD course of the Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche “Mario Negri”. Since 2005 she is Member of the Committee Quality System Management of the Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche “Mario Negri”. L. Diomede is reviewer “ad hoc” for national and international journals.
She has published about 80 papers and 4 chapter of books. The total number of citations of her papers is about 1854 and H index is 27 (Web of Science).
Honors: 1989, Fellow of America Association for Cancer Research, British Association for Cancer Research and European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer.
