Biography & Research:
Ricardo Taipa, born on January 3rd 1979, works as Neuropathologist at the Neuropathology Unit, Hospital Santo António – Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Porto and as a Consultant Neurologist dedicated to the Dementia Clinic, Department of Neurology, in the same hospital. He is also one of the Directors of the recently founded Portuguese Brain Bank for Neurological Disorders. Since 2011, he has been apointed as lecturer in Neuroanatomy at ICBAS, University of Porto. Dr. Taipa is also a PhD student at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute, University of Minho.
Ricardo Taipa studied Medicine at the Abel Salazar Biomedical Sciences Institute (ICBAS), University of Porto, Portugal, between 1997 and 2003. From 2004 to 2006, Dr Taipa worked as a research fellow at the Life and Health Sciences Institute, University of Minho, Braga, Portugal. He completed his neurology residency in 2011 at Hospital Santo António, Porto, and became a Fellow of the European Board of Neurology in the same year. During his training, Dr Taipa worked at the Manchester Neuroscience Centre, Manchester, UK, under a fellowship from the European Federation of Neurological Societies (EFNS), and more recently during his training in neuropathology at the Division of Neuropathology and Queen Square Brain Bank for neurological disorders, National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London, UK.
