Biography & Research:
Prof. dr. Leszek Szablewski is Chief of the Chair and Department of General Biology & Parasitology, Medical University of Warsaw. He graduated from University of Warsaw, Poland. He received his M.S. degree in Faculty of Biology from the same University. He obtained his Ph. D. from Institute of Experimental Biology, Polish Academy of Science, habilitated in Medical University of Warsaw, and degree of Professor he obtained from President of Poland. Prof. Szablewski has experience in cell physiology, genetics and pathophysiology. He works on damages of glucose uptake and expression of glucose transporters in cells. Prof. Szablewski's research is primarily focused on how diseases, such as different forms of diabetes mellitus, cancers, surgical procedures, etc. affect cellular glucose transport and how impaired function of glucose transporters cause diseases. He is author of monography entitled "Glucose homeostasis and insulin resistance", editor of the book "Glucose homeostasis", author of chapters in books, as well as author and co-author of many articles (original and reviews) on mentioned subjects.
