Biography & Research:
Professor Williams is Head of Centre for Biomedical Sciences at Royal Holloway University of London. He grew up in Australia, graduating with a first class degree in Biochemistry from the University of Sydney, and a PhD in Molecular Cell Biology from the University of Melbourne. He then moved to the UK, for a Postdoctoral position at St Andrews University and then a second at University College London (UCL) using the simple model Dictyostelium. He was awarded a Wellcome Trust Career Development fellowship at University College, and moved to Royal Holloway in 2006. He has published a range of papers using Dictyostelium as an animal reduction/replacement model for basic biomedical research, toxicology and drug development studies.
