Biography & Research:
Jesus Pujol, MD, is the Director of the MRI Research Unit, Hospital del Mar, Barcelona. He obtained the Degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Barcelona in 1984, was trained as Neurology Specialist at the Hospital de Sant Pau i la Santa Creu of Barcelona from 1985 to 1988, after which he followed a four-year (1988-1992) Education in Neuroscience (FPPI) at the Department of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychobiology, University of Barcelona and obtained his PhD in Medicine and Surgery at the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1992. Of relevance, Jesus Pujol was top classified examinee in the competitive nationwide (20,400 applicants) 1985 MIR test (Spanish Selective Testing for Medical Residents) and received the Extraordinary Prize for Excellence of Doctorate Thesis, Autonomous University of Barcelona, and the first Excellence Award to Medical Research from the Medical College of Catalonia. Jesus Pujol began work as a researcher on the study of brain and behavior correlates using MRI in 1988. He started carrying out research specifically on functional MRI at a very early stage of its development, being pioneer in Europe. Jesus Pujol has over 28 years of experience conducting all the aspects of research aimed at identifying neurologic and psychiatric markers of disease, and to characterize normal and pathological brain development using anatomical and functional MRI. He has published 162 scientific articles, currently cited a mean of 53 times each, in high impact Journals (mean Journal impact factor 5.7).
