Emilio Artacho-Pérula, M.D., Ph.D., is professor of Human Anatomy and Embryology at the School of Medicine in Albacete, Spain (University of Castilla-La Mancha). He has a wide experience in cell and tissue quantitation, always focused to the applicability of the morphometric and stereological methods for obtaining scientific information of biological material (specially skeletal muscle and brain). In addition, he has interest to improve these quantitative methods developing methodological aspects. Their research includes the use of quantitative tools in both experimental and human material as well as the study the correspondence between magnetic resonance imaging with citoarchitectural description of the brain regions, especially in the medial temporal lobe (hippocampal formation and entorhinal cortex). He has studied from these point of view the presence of changes in lesions such as Alzheimer disease.
