Biography & Research:
Rob Williams is a molecular and cellular neuroscientist with more than 20 years of experience working in the field of neurodegeneration. His research interests are in the area of synaptic signalling, oxidative stress and neuroprotection and he is recognised for his work in defining the neuroprotective properties of dietary polyphenolics particularly with respect to Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia. Specific research areas relate to: glutamate receptors; Ca2+ signalling; free radicals; oxidative stress; dietary antioxidants; amyloid precursor protein (APP) processing; amyloid beta aggregation; neuroprotection; redox regulation of neuronal proteostasis; ubiquitination, development of novel metal chelators and biomarker identification. He has technical expertise in the development of cell platforms for studying proteostasis in neurons, astrocytes and microglia and for screening novel neuroprotective compounds. He is currently on the Editorial Boards of Neurochemistry International and Nutrition and Aging and he is a member of the Grant Review Board of Alzheimer's Research UK.
