Biography & Research:
Dr. Gianna Palmieri has achieved her master degree in Chemistry at the University of Naples “Federico II” and she is researcher scientist at the National Research Council (CNR) from 2000. She obtained her 3-year specialization degree in “Advanced Biotechnology from the University of Naples. Her scientific and research activity is focused on the study of the structure/function relationship of proteins and peptides involved in different cellular pathways and biological processes. In the last ten years, she dedicated her attention to proteolytic systems involved in protein quality control and stress responses, studying their involvement in neurodegenerative and cancer diseases. All these activities produced over 100 publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals covering various aspect of enzymology, receiving 3000 citations. She is also co-inventor of 3 International Patents. Dr Palmieri has a long and strong scientific background, developed over 30 years of growing experience acquired by intense training in Italian and international laboratories of both academic and industry institutions. She was Visiting Scientist at the Department of Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Boston (USA). Dr Palmieri is a peer reviewer for Italian National Agency for the evaluation of University and Research Institutes. Moreover, she serves as a reviewer for several international journals and she is a member of the Editorial Board of peer-reviewed journals in the Biochemistry field.
