Biography & Research: 

Dr Julia Gilmartin-Thomas is a Pharmacist and a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) – Australian Research Council (ARC) Dementia Research Development Fellow (2016–current), based at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (academic supervisor Professor John McNeil). Julia was awarded her Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) in 2009, Graduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice in 2012 and PhD in 2014, all from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Monash University. From 2013 to 2015, Julia was a CW Maplethorpe Postdoctoral Fellow for Pharmaceutical Education and Research at University College London School of Pharmacy. Julia was also a visiting postdoctoral researcher at the School of Medicine, University of Eastern Finland in 2014, supported by an Alzheimer's Australia Dementia Research Foundation Rosemary Foundation Travel Award. Julia is currently studying a Master of Biostatistics at Monash University (2016–current). Julia's research interests are in the quality use of medications in older populations and in people with dementia, and undergraduate medical and pharmacy education. Julia collaborates with existing colleagues at University College London (in areas of undergraduate pharmacy education and medication administration systems in residential aged care facilities) and the University of Eastern Finland (medication use in persons with Alzheimer's disease), and new colleagues at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Eshelman School of Pharmacy (undergraduate pharmacy education – supported by a PharmAlliance Grant). Julia has presented nationally and internationally as an invited speaker, at conferences, and at public engagement events. Julia is a scientific journal reviewer, PhD student supervisor, School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine Early Career Researcher Representative, Assistant Editor at the Journal of Pharmacy Practice and Research (Official Journal of The Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia), and Associate Editor at the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.
