Biography & Research:
My laboratory is primarily interested in prevention and therapeutic strategies for various neurodegenerative diseases and major focus on inhibiting protein fibrillation, clearing aggregated protein plaques from the brain, and lowering protein-aggregate-induced toxicity. Our collaborator from IITG has been synthesizing a novel protein called Beta sheet breaker α/β hybrid peptides (synthetic antibodies) as a therapeutic agent and we are investigating the biological effects of it on in vitro cellular model such as human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells and in vivo Drosophila model of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). In order to understand the molecular mechanisms, various models have explored and the knowledge obtained has enriched our understanding towards some aspects of the diseases.
