Biography & Research:
Dr Belbin is a senior biologist with 15 years experience in the field of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) translational research. She has co-authored over 40 research articles, reviews and editorials in prestigious international journals and has given talks at the top international conferences. Trained in Neurosciences at the University of Nottingham (UK), she received her doctorate in 2008 from the same University. Her PhD thesis describes the novel identification of a genetic variant associated with faster progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Dr Belbin spent 2 years as a post-doctoral researcher at the Mayo Clinic (USA) where her research focus was the validation of genetic biomarkers for AD. In 2011, Dr Belbin relocated to Hospital Sant Pau, Barcelona where she has led her own research line since 2014 focused on synaptic biomarkers for AD. Dr Belbin has been awarded 6 research grants as principal investigator by national and regional governments. She is a regular lecturer on the EMBO Advanced Proteomics course participates in international collaborative projects, including the Epistasis Project.
