Biography & Research:
Dr. Castro-Obregón obtained a Ph. D. in Developmental Biology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She trained as a postdoctoral fellow at the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute in La Jolla, California, and at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging in Novato, California, USA, studying the molecular basis for neuronal vulnerability during neurodegeneration. She also was a visiting scientist at the Max Plank Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin. Her current research interest is to understand the molecular basis for autophagy dysfunction during aging and in Alzheimer´s disease and its potential contribution to altered brain function.
