Biography & Research:
Emeritus Professor Maggie Bassendine is a clinician scientist. She dual accredited in General Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Her major research interests have been in autoimmunity and virus-host interaction. She has 15509 citations, an h-index of 63 and and i10-index of 170. In the UK her expertise led to her appointment to a range of committees including Committee on Safety of Medicines (biologicals subcommittee), Medicines Commission and as an ambassador for the Government Equality Office. As British representative, she was the first female member of the European Association for the Study of the Liver Governing Board. Other past appointments included Chair of the British Society of Gastroenterology Liver Section and a Trustee of the major liver charity, the British Liver Trust. She is currently a Trustee of the Hepatitis C Trust.
