Biography & Research:
Dr. Teixeira graduated and did his medical training in internal medicine, neurology and psychiatry at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brazil. He also completed a PhD and a post-doc fellowship in, respectively, cellular biology and immunology at the same institution that he joined as a junior faculty in 2004. There he was involved in basic and translational research aiming to understand the role of inflammatory/immune mechanisms in the pathophysiology of neuropsychiatric disorders, including Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. In 2015, Dr. Teixeira moved to Houston, TX to join the UTHealth Houston McGovern Medical School as a Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology. Currently he is the director of Neuropsychiatry Program dedicated to the clinical care and study of neurocognitive and behavioral symptoms in the context of neurodegenerative conditions.
