Biography & Research:
Dementia prevalence is expected to triple worldwide over the next 40 years at tremendous monetary and emotional cost. Dr. Chao's research seeks to minimize the impact of the impending dementia epidemic by evaluating non-pharmacological interventions that may delay onset or slow progression of cognitive impairment and dementia and identifying neuroimaging biomarkers that may help to gauge the effectiveness of the intervention.
Dr. Chao has also done research in the field of aging and behavioral neurotoxicology since the 1990's. She has published studies in neurotoxicology (i.e., chemical warfare agents, pesticides), neurobehavioral outcomes and the effects of physical stressors and genetic predisposition to disease on cognitive functioning in Alzheimer's and Parkinson disease.
