Biography & Research: 

Gorazd B. Stokin obtained his medical degree at the University of Trieste and the doctoral degree in neurosciences from the University of California San Diego. There he studied the amyloid precursor protein and investigated the role of axonal transport in Alzheimer’s disease. His post-doctoral research consisted of further studies of the axonal transport, which later continued also at the University of Cambridge. He completed his neurology residency at the University Medical Center Ljubljana and trained in cognitive neurology at the Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and the Addenbrooke’s Hospital. As a consultant neurologist, he spent several years caring for patients with cognitive disorders in different Ljubljana hospitals. He then contributed to the diagnostics of cognitive disorders, presided the steering committee commissioned by the government to develop the first national strategy for dementia and became an advisor at the Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum. He was then selected by an international search committee to chair the newly founded International Clinical Research Centre in Brno where he was later elected a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology. There Gorazd B. Stokin established also his own research Laboratory with affiliation to the Mayo Clinic. He currently focuses on the clinical care and research of Alzheimer’s and related disorders.
