Biography & Research:
Dr. Murali Vijayan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) in Lubbock, Texas. He earned his Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Bharathidasan University, India, with a thesis focused on the genetic underpinnings of ischemic stroke. Dr. Vijayan's research expertise encompasses cerebrovascular biology, Alzheimer's disease, aging, immunogenetics, and population genetics. Throughout his career, he has made significant strides in mitochondrial biology, microRNA research, and neurodegeneration, with a particular focus on Alzheimer's disease and stroke. His innovative contributions have garnered numerous accolades, including the Junior Investigator Research Grant from the Texas Alzheimer's Research and Care Consortium and the Career Development Award from the American Heart Association. A prolific reviewer and editor for prominent scientific journals, Dr. Vijayan's dedication to advancing scientific knowledge is further reflected in his service as a reviewer for the NIH and AHA. This role underscores his status as a thought leader in his field.
