Biography & Research:
Marta Balietti has a Master Degree summa cum laude in Biology, a Specialization summa cum laude in Chemical Biochemistry and a Doctoral Degree in Neurophysiology. She works as researcher at Center of Neurobiology of Aging of INRCA, Ancona, Italy. Her main fields of interest are: i) identification of diagnostic, prognostic and therapy monitoring biomarkers of age-related pathologies, ii) investigation of synaptic plasticity involvement in age-related cognitive deficits, and iii) evaluation of the preventive/therapeutic potentiality of non-pharmacological protocols in physiological and pathological senescence. Recently, her attention has been focalised on animal models of behavioural and cognitive alterations to identify the possible cellular substrates implicated in emotional and memory alterations experienced by elderly subjects. She participated to several projects concerning the possible pre-clinical markers useful in Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis, the involvement of inflammation in the age-related neurodegeneration, and the investigation of preventive/therapeutic effect of cognitive stimulation on patients affected by MCI and dementia. She has wide expertise in light and transmission electron microscopy, molecular biology (immunoblotting, PCR, ELISA, microarray technique) as well as animal behaviour research. She is co-author of numerous papers published in international journals.
