Biography & Research:
In 1996 I obtained my doctoral thesis entitled "Changes in the expression of intermediate filament genes in astroglia during the development of the rat brain: Effect of exposure to ethanol". In it I analysed the events that occur during the early stages of astrogliogenesis during brain development, obtaining an outstanding "Cum Laude" grade. The following year I was awarded the extraordinary doctorate award by the University of Valencia.
In 1997, I joined the group of Dr. Eva Qwanstrom and Steve Dower at Hallamshire Hospital (University of Shefffiel, UK), where I stayed for 3 1/2 years identifying a regulatory subunit of the interleukin-1 receptor. There I was working on immunological processes, cytokines, inflammation, and regulation of the cell matrix.
In 2000 I returned to Spain to work on alcohol toxicology (from 2000 to 2004). In that same year, I began to work (part-time) in the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Valencia, where after different positions as a lecturer, I obtained a position of Associate Professor at the University with a laboratory own (Laboratory: Molecular mechanisms of pathology: biochemistry and molecular biology).
In March 2021, my government granted me the accreditation of Professor and I am currently waiting to apply for a position as Professor that must leave in September or October.
I have participated in more than 25 research projects and have published more than 50 articles in high-impact journals, in addition to presenting more than 60 communications to international conferences.
